What is this life if, full of care...?

Some of us are born to work. Others aren't. Cassie is among the latter.

It's an irritating thing about retirement (I also used to find it about holidays from work) that somehow, though I work quite hard at tidying the house, it doesn't remain tidy without constant vigilance. I must stop doing things. I need to achieve a state of immaculateness and then just sit there, reading.

Not today, though. Friends are coming to lunch tomorrow and I must decide what they're going to eat and then buy the ingredients and fashion them into something palatable. And then do the tidying thing again.

  1. I hoped that when the children got past the whirlwind stage I would have an immaculate house! Please don't disillusion me ... I am planning to be one of those retired ladies with a house where even the flower petals fall from the vase in perfect order.

Congratulations on your grandson, he is rather gorgeous.

  2. I bet yours is a lovely house! Just popped into your blog on way from elsewhere but hope to be back!

  3. You need to achieve a state of being able to sit and read, whatever surrounds you.

  4. Worse thing about three adults at home all the time - you never have the joy of tidying up, going out and coming back and it's still absolutely the same (tidy!). Nowadays, if I go out, husband will have imported various piles of books and bits of paper from his study to the sittingroom and M-in-law will decide to change all her clothes and clear out her stationery drawer!

  5. I'm still hoping for this state of Nirvana but so far no luck. I start with excellent intentions early in the morning and by this time in the day, throw up hands in disgust and go and read blogs, but not those home ones, the ones that look as though they are suspended in (immaculate) time, they make me want to dig hole and disappear.
On yesterday's subject was a little taken aback by the sight of a magazine already on shelf in Tesco about the life of Amy Winehouse, three days after her death. And so agree, such a waste of a life.

  6. I SO know what you mean. It boggles my mind that people actually have normal sized houses and are able to have a life outside that. I live in a teensy, tinsy cottage and it's all I can to do keep up with the cobwebs, cat hair, and stuff tracked in from outside. Not to mention the messes we make "doing things" around here. I can't imagine how anyone with a regular (or even large) house is able to keep house, work a full time job, and get the shopping done with any time left at all for fun stuff. Unless they can afford a maid. Which I would never do, because I don't like strangers in my stuff.

  7. I like to think I could cope with an irritation like that...but I guess it takes time to just decide 'bugger it....dust will have to wait..I'm off out!.....that is what I'm planning to do!
